Samsung Television Streaming and Wifi issue fixed There has long been issues with Samsung TV’s dropping their internet connection particularly when streaming Netflix or Amazon Prime. If you check the internet solutions they vary from change your TV to only attach by ethernet cable. In most cases this isn’t practical as the TV is often wall-mounted and a fair distance from the router. We recently had to investigate the issue on a Virgin multimedia installation fitted with a Superhub 3.0. The wifi TV was disconnecting from wifi in both Netflix and Amazon Prime and had been doing so for 6 months since the router was upgraded by Virgin. A wifi extender was used to boost the signal to the TV which did not cure the issue. Powerline adaptors were then installed which only produced a marginal improvement in performance. The hub was giving 100 Mbps on a wired connection but was only producing at best 20Mbps using the wireless connection which was the preferred solution. We fitted a TPLink Archer ac750 cable router and set the Virgin Superhub 3.0 to modem mode – this produced an instant improvement in performance with the wifi measured at the TV producing bursts of up to 75Mbps. The TV was then tested for wifi disconnection and to date has not had any issue with streaming Netflix or Amazon Prime and the picture quality is now 100%.
Update to our opening hours – we are now open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and are no longer open on Saturday
The internet scammers are getting cleverer every day. The latest attempt to obtain your money was seen in the wild on Saturday morning at a clients home – we have several clients who have been taken in by this one – it involves a screen popping up on your computer telling you to ring an 0800 number because you have a virus as shown below. (Please excuse my terrible photography. ) As you can clearly see in the second photo at the bottom right there would seem to be a popup from Windows Security Essentials (spelled incorrectly – missing the s) however this is all part of the scam image superimposed on the screen. Do not call the number. Instead press ctrl-alt-del and choose Task Manager. In the list of tasks select your browser and click “end task” This will close the window that is locking your screen. It is however likely that you may have some malware on your computer that caused the popup in the first instance. So it would be advisable to either bring it in to the shop for a cleanup or arrange a home visit with one of our technicians.
Word of warning to all our clients. Be very careful of downloading unexpected email documents as they may contain one of the variants of the krypto virus – if you you are attacked you will lose all your documents, photos an even access to your pc or laptop

New outbreaks of the cryptolocker virus have been hitting our customers over the last few weeks. The cryptolocker virus is a trojan that encrypts all your data files and holds you to ransom for a key that unlocks the files again. What this means is that all your pictures, spreadsheets, and documents are effectively lost. However it doesn’t end there – your local hard drive is the last place that the virus attacks – it encrypts your network shares, cloud storage and any attached backup devices first. The virus is generally distributed via email as a document attachment so please ensure that you do not open any unexpected emails even from people you know – check with them first to make sure that they did send it. Backup your data regularly to an external backup device and then disconnect it from the computer. For any help and advice please contact us at the shop on 023920461012. So far this year a local company has lost all its data, a book writer lost the book that they had spent 4 years writing and a resident lost all his family pictures – don’t make the same mistake they did!!

Windows 10 Update. We are now experiencing much lower levels of Windows 10 issues and most are now relatively simple to resolve. As per usual with Microsoft it has taken over a year to eradicate the teething problems. We now recommend Windows 10 for both new and experienced users.
Update on Windows 10 We have experienced persistent issues with many windows 10 installations both on new installations on new computers and upgrade installations on old computers. Our advice remains the same upgrade to Windows 10 at your peril – there are more failures than successes. It is our opinion that it is not going to be a viable option for the foreseeable future. If you have already upgraded and are experiencing issues we will endeavour to do our best to assist you.

Surprise surprise – our initial thoughts on Windows 10 are correct and you definitely shouldn’t be installing it just yet – since the launch we have already downgraded 40 systems for various reasons but mostly bugs. Google Windows 10 problems and you will find a whole host of them!!
We would like to remind our customers that at this stage we would not advise upgrading to Windows 10 for the following reasons: 1. It is an untested product which is likely to be bug ridden for at least the first 6 months. 2. Certain software applications do not work with it – so if you have purchased older software it is possible you will have to buy a later version. 3. Microsoft have issued a disclaimer stating that you must check for windows 10 drivers with your manufacturer before upgrading otherwise they will not be responsible for lost data. 4. They have also issued a disclaimer to say that they are nor responsible anyway. 5. It is rumoured that because its free you will have to pay for everything else including games which are now currently free. 6. It is likely that OEM licences will not be recognized and therefore cannot be upgraded to Windows 10 without purchasing the upgrade. 7. Older printers will almost definitely not be supported by windows 10
